500,000th Crystal Structure Milestone Reached

The Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) is proud to announce the archiving of the 500,000th small molecule crystal structure to the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD)

"The determination of 500,000 crystal structures is a remarkable achievement. However, the scientific community is hungry for the next 500,000 and the knowledge these will undoubtedly bring. As the CSD grows both in size and in the complexity of structures it contains, the database not only helps us to answer our questions about molecular structure and interactions, but tells us what those questions should be."

Mott MacDonald celebrates continued success in the Best Big Companies to Work For Awards

Mott MacDonald has been awarded 8th place in the prestigious Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For Survey, 2010. It is the third consecutive year that the consultancy has made it into the top 10. Mott MacDonald is the only professional services firm of its kind to make it to this tier. It marks a continuation of the company’s award successes in 2009.*

Peter Wickens, Mott MacDonald’s chairman said, “We are very proud and delighted to continue to feature among Britain’s top companies. In an increasingly competitive environment and with more great companies competing for places, it makes our achievement even more significant. Our employees make Mott MacDonald a special place and we aim to do our utmost to provide a stimulating and rewarding environment for working and learning. As such, findings from this exercise are used to inform positive changes to our employee benefits offerings, which helps us to retain our talented professionals.”

The Best Companies survey is an established barometer of workplace opinion based on the responses of over 230,000 employees across 964 companies, and examines the key components of a happy, engaged and successful workplace. It also evaluates each organisation’s key statistics, processes and policies. The process involved employee participation in the survey as well as completion of an organisation questionnaire.

This top ranking for Mott MacDonald follows news that the organisation has achieved, for the second year running, Best Companies Two Star Accreditation status for 2010 which recognises the company as having outstanding workplace engagement practices, including exceptional motivation, inspiration and staff retention levels.

The Awards were announced at a gala celebration held at Battersea Evolution, London on 25th February 2010. The results were published in The Sunday Times on 7th March.

Mott MacDonald is an employee-owned, management, engineering and development consultancy. It has offices in key locations both in the UK and around the globe. With an excellent programme of staff training, Mott MacDonald aims to offer a wide range of exciting and interesting career paths for its employees across its core operations in building and infrastructure, health, education, transport, energy, communications, water and environment.
